And for those who rush to the TL;DR, here's an infographic presenting Vaper's Tongue and The Six (6) Ways to Get Rid Of It:
Six ways to get rid of Vaper's Tongue
Calm down. You are not really losing your taste, and the flavors of your ejuices are not irretrievable. You will get them back so there's nothing to be anxious about.
Drink some water, juice or a beverage. Both glycerine and propylene glycol (the main ingredients of our eliquids) tend to dehydrate the tonque. Keep it feeling fresh and help your taste buds recover their full abilities. Keep in mind that alcohol won't help and may, in fact, make things worse. Save it for when things get back to normal, and don't forget that even then water works wonders with keeping vapers feeling up to par.
If you've been vaping your favorite ejuice for long, it may be time for a change. Vape something different, keep several eliquids on rotation throughout the day and don't stick to an all-day-vape for a while. You'll soon notice your sensitivity returning.
Some flavors are strong enough to break through the barrier of tiredness that plagues your taste. Menthol, cinnamon and lime may be able to reboot your senses and shock them back to top form. Don't get permanently hooked on stronger and stronger tastes though. The shock treatment won't work if you're so accustomed to them that they won't give you a jolt anymore!
Try other ways and tastes to stimulate your bored taste-buds using things that even wine tasters find helpful! Citrus-y tastes, lemon juice, pickles, a touch of vinegar or ginger will do the trick. Coffee really helps, not only when you drink it but even when you smell the amazing fragrance of ground coffee beans. This is a well-known method used by professionals who can't afford to have a numbed-down sense of taste or smell.
Choose the proper nicotine ratio and vape on! This takes patience but is guaranteed to fight even the strongest case of vaper's tongue. Your taste will forget the abundance of flavorings that put it to overdrive and will get the rest it deserves. Do it for at least a couple of days but I promise you'll get the best results the longer you'll go the unflavored way!
Vaping straight base is not as strange as it sounds to the uninitiated. It can be quite agreeable, especially for those that seek a simple, dry tobacco-ish taste. I know vapers who prefer it from flavored eliquids -plus, it's amazingly cheap. The main advantage though is that your sense of taste will be renewed. If you make your own DIY juice you'll find that a short time-out may get you to permanently cut down on flavorings -you'll simply need less to enjoy your recipes.
